With drastic changes taking place in our work environment and schools, it is becoming imperative to stay seamlessly connected with everyone. Collaborating virtually with fellow colleagues, teachers and kids requires a platform that offers a holistic experience and features that cater to everyone’s needs.

Today, Microsoft Teams—which brings together chat, meetings, calling, and Office 365 document collaboration—is announcing new features to help you feel more connected to people at work and school, reduce video fatigue, make meetings more inclusive and engaging, and to streamline your work to save time.

Before we dive into these updates, we’d like to share some of the recent findings from our latest Work Trend Index report as we’ve been looking at the rise of remote work due to COVID-19 and its acceleration of the future of work and its psychological impact—even diving into studies on the human brain to understand the impact of more frequent remote work on individuals. Latest key features from Microsoft Teams include:

Together mode – A new experience in Teams that reimagines how we engage virtually via video. This mode uses VR to literally break down the virtual barriers holding us back from more connected and engaging meetings and gatherings. Several customers, including Levi Strauss & Co, Stony Brook University, and the University of Texas - Arlington, have been trialing Together mode to help us learn from their experiences and use cases ahead of its public launch today.

Dynamic view – A more fluid, flexible and intelligent way to interact with people and content in a meeting. The new stage dynamically adjusts to prioritize shared content and those who have joined with video.

In-meeting features – In-meeting features like chat bubbles, reflections, and live reactions will allow people to share their sentiment without interrupting the meeting flow.

Cortana – Now coming to Teams as a voice assistant, Cortana will leverage both AI and the Microsoft Graph to securely find the right meetings, files and people when you ask.

Filters – Non-verbal communication is a big part of how we communicate. Using AI, Microsoft has added video filters to help facilitate and aid in non-verbal communications.
