HTC has unveiled two new devices under its Vive lineup of VR headsets. This includes the HTC Vive Pro Eye and the Vive Cosmos. The announcement was made during the ongoing CES 2019 event in Las Vegas. The Vive Pro Eye is an improvement over the Vive Pro and brings native eye tracking to the device. The Vive Cosmos is a brand new headset with 6 Degrees of Freedom (6DOF).

The new Vive Pro Eye’s eye tracking feature comes with ‘foveated rendering’, which HTC says can give better visual quality inside the headset. In other words, the images displayed on the screen, follow where you look instead of being locked to the direction your head is pointing. Eye tracking should also help with menu navigation, thereby reducing the need for a controller. The HTC Vive Pro Eye features dual AMOLED displays with a resolution of 1140 x 1600 pixels each and a refresh rate of 90Hz. It also offers a 110 degree field of view with a room scaling of up to 15 x 15 feet.

The HTC Vive Cosmos offers a new tracking system that doesn’t seem to require the external sensors that the current Vive requires. The company notes that the Cosmos is equipped with the “sharpest screens yet” with “minimal screen door effect.” The device also comes with a new controller design and aims to offer an easier setup process. Other design changes include a new crown design that is aimed to be easier to put on and take off. Other details of the Cosmos will be revealed at a later date.
