According to the company’s sale figures released on Thursday, Microsoft sold 100 million fewer licenses of Windows 8 than it had sold of Windows 7 in about the same amount of time.
Microsoft released Windows 7 on October 22, 2009. By January 2011, it had sold 300 million copies. On October 26, 2012, the company released Windows 8 and has confirmed that it sold only 200 million copies in February 2014. In May last year, Microsoft confirmed that it had sold 100 million licenses which was a good start despite drops in PC sales due to the growth of tablet market.
