LG G5 starts receiving Android 7.0 Nougat update
  • Better late that never, LG starts Android 7.0 Nougat update for G5 in Sourth Korea, with global rollout scheduled for coming weeks.

LG is beating all other Android OEMs in the market when it comes to delivering the Android Nougat update. LG has now started rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat for its modular G5 smartphone in South Korea. With its recent flagship, the V20, LG became the first company to deliver a smartphone with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.

LG is rolling out Android Nougat only to its Korean customers. According to The Verge, LG plans to roll out the update to LG G5 users in the US, Asia and other markets in the weeks to come. While the update is weeks away from a global rollout, LG's progress with the Korean rollout proves the stability of this build, and it should be internationally available very soon.

LG's Android 7.0 Nougat update will come with company's own UX 5.0 on top. The new UX interface does not include an app drawer, but there is an option to bring it back. LG has tweaked the notifications shade, keeping it in line with Google's default Nougat interface

Those familiar with Android on the old Nexus range will actually like LG's custom Nougat version, which doesn't stray away from the stock UI. The biggest update to Nougat is support for multi-window operations, and LG has ditched its own dual-window feature in favour of Google's iteration. In terms of other features, Android 7.0 Nougat brings improved Doze mode and new multitasking option, called Quick Switching. With Quick Switching, Nougat users can easily switch between two of the most recently-used apps. The feature works system-wide, and can be accomplished simply by double-tapping the overview button.

With Android 7.0 Nougat, notifications have received a slight makeover. The notifications ditch the Google Now-like card interface, and now offers more information in lesser space. It also offers bundled notifications and quick reply options. With Motorola having announced its Nougat update for Moto Z and G4 and Samsung joining the update list as well, it seems most recent smartphones will finally get the flavour of Nougat.
