First Android P developer preview may be released in mid-March
  • Evan Blass has tweeted that Google will launch Android P developer Preview 1 around mid March

It seems like Google might launch the developer preview of Android P soon. Evan Blass, aka @evleaks, tweeted that Preview 1 of the release would be available sometime around mid-March. It should be noted that Google revealed the developer preview of Android O around the same time last year.

Not much is known about Android P yet, but reports suggest that the new OS version could offer even stricter rules to apps running in the background. It is tipped to restrict apps accessing the camera and/or microphone. It was noted in the report that the new privacy features would be applied as a rule to an apps UID. When the smartphone enters Doze mode, the Android system would block apps from accessing the camera and the microphone.

Android P is also expected to bring support for devices that feature a notch in the display, similar to the Apple iPhone X’s display design. However, there are already a number of Android devices that feature the notch design. This includes the Essential Phone and the new Asus ZenFone 5/ZenFone 5Z that were unveiled at the recently concluded MWC. This would encourage more manufacturers to offer bezel-less displays that incorporate the notched design.

Google Android P will most likely unveil the new OS version during its annual developer conference, Google I/O. This year’s event is scheduled to be held from May 8 to May 10.
