Over the years, OnePlus has adopted a simplified strategy to create hype around its new products. The company hosts a bunch of pop-up stores around the world the day after announcing a new smartphone to let fans hold them in their hands and take a good hard look at the products. With the lockdown in place to curb the menace of the coronavirus, OnePlus had to be a little creative with the OnePlus 8 series.

The OnePlus 8 series went official via an online event on Tuesday. There are two smartphones in the series for now — The vanilla OnePlus 8 and the true-flagship OnePlus 8 Pro. Now OnePlus is put out two AR filters on Instagram that lets you unbox the latest devices virtually.

“We are using simple AR tech to bring a virtual experience of our new products to the community. We’re launching two AR filters on our Instagram channels. One for the OnePlus 8 and the other for the OnePlus 8 Pro. These filters are a sweet setup to help you virtually unbox the OnePlus 8 series at any place and at any time,” OnePlus wrote in a forum post.

As mentioned, the new AR filters are there on OnePlus’ Instagram profiles. Once you install them, look for a flat surface and place the AR box. Hit the record button after that to see the box come alive. Interact with the box and the other elements in it, including the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro.
