Apple’s first-ever foldable iPhone may be thinner yet durable than iPhone Air: Here’s what we know
The foldable iPhone may feature a titanium-aluminum chassis, with a hinge reinforced by stainless steel and Liquidmetal for durability.
It is expected to sport a dual 48MP camera setup, ProMotion OLED display, and the upcoming A20 Pro chipset.
Early leaks suggest a potential price of around Rs 2,30,000 in India.
After getting positive feedback from the iPhone 17 series, Apple is now reportedly planning to introduce its first-ever foldable iPhone. While the device has been in the rumours for a while, multiple aspects have hinted that Apple has already started working on its Apple iPhone Fold. Now the latest update states that the device may come with a redesigned chassis built from a combination of titanium and aluminum, according to analyst Jeff Pu.
SurveyIn a note shared with investors, Pu claimed that Apple plans to expand its use of titanium access to the premium lineup, including the upcoming foldable iPhone and the iPhone Air models expected in 2026.
This aligns with earlier reports that hinted at Apple experimenting with mixed-metal constructions for its future devices. However, while Pu suggests a titanium-aluminum blend, well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously proposed a slightly different composition: titanium combined with stainless steel. According to Kuo, Apple’s foldable model will have a hinge made primarily of stainless steel and titanium, with parts of the mechanism possibly using Liquidmetal to increase durability and resistance to wear.
iPhone Fold launch timeline, design
The foldable iPhone is said to be part of iPhone 18 series and may launch in September 2026. As per the reports, the foldable iPhone may measure just 4.5mm in thickness when unfolded, making it slimmer than the current iPhone Air. It may feature a titanium structure for a better durability and avoid bending or flex related issues.
