Social networking giant Twitter announced on Tuesday that it is going to make it easier for users to search for tweets. The company announced on its engineering blog that Twitter is now indexing every tweet since 2006. You can access the search from Twitter’s advanced search page and search for keywords or phrases to or from a specific account. It even lets you select a dateline.
According to the post made by Twitter,
“Since that first simple Tweet over eight years ago, hundreds of billions of Tweets have captured everyday human experiences and major historical events. Our search engine excelled at surfacing breaking news and events in real time, and our search index infrastructure reflected this strong emphasis on recency. But our long-standing goal has been to let people search through every Tweet ever published.”
The company has detailed the working of the new search infrastructure in the blog post. It wrote that the complete index of tweets is 100 times larger than the real-time index (which includes tweets from a week ago). In addition, it grows by several billion tweets each week.
