Many people believed the message to be true, especially given the current situation at the border. But the government is urging citizens not to fall for such rumours.
Earlier this week, the government had also warned people about a surge in misinformation linked to Pakistan. The government stated that misleading social media posts may flood platforms in the coming days as part of a “Pakistan sponsored propaganda.” In a post shared to raise awareness, it said: “In the coming days your social media will be flooded with #Pakistan sponsored propaganda. It’s crucial to scrutinize every piece of information carefully. If you encounter dubious content, especially concerning the Indian Armed Forces or any info related to ongoing situation, report it to #PIBFactCheck.”
If you come across any suspicious content, users are advised to report it directly via WhatsApp at +91 8799711259 or by emailing factcheck@pib.gov.in.
Citizens are urged to stay calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and follow only official government channels for updates.
