Apple chip chief Johny Srouji shuts down exit speculation, says he has no plans to leave

Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware technologies, has confirmed he has no plans to leave the company “anytime soon”, putting an end to the reports that he might leave. The speculation had raised concerns about executive turnover at Apple, which has seen a number of leadership changes in recent times. Srouji is a key figure behind Apple’s hardware innovations, including the shift to in-house silicon chips.

In a memo to his team, Srouji addressed the rumours directly, according to Bloomberg. “I know you’ve been reading all kind of rumors and speculations about my future at Apple, and I feel that you need to hear from me directly,” he wrote. “I love my team, and I love my job at Apple, and I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon.”

The rumours started over the weekend when Bloomberg reported that Srouji had discussed leaving Apple with CEO Tim Cook and might consider working for another technology company. Cook has reportedly acted quickly to retain Srouji. His efforts included offering a substantial pay package and the promise of additional responsibilities.

In his memo, Srouji also expressed pride in the technologies Apple is building, including displays, cameras, sensors, chips and batteries.

Srouji’s decision to stay is a relief for Apple at a time when leadership stability is important, as many senior executives are leaving the company. Recently, the iPhone-maker announced that John Giannandrea, its head of artificial intelligence, would be stepping down. The company also revealed that Alan Dye, the head of user interface design, was also departing. General Counsel Kate Adams and Vice President for Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives Lisa Jackson are also retiring.
