Xiaomi’s third announcement of the week is a permanent price cut on the Xiaomi Redmi Y2 smartphone. The company is celebrating its five years in India and will be making five surprise announcements. The price drop on the Redmi Y2 smartphone is the third one and the phone’s 3GB RAM + 32GB storage version will be priced at Rs 8,999, down from its previous price of Rs 9,999. The 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant of the handset is now priced at Rs 10,999, down from 11,999. Redmi Y2 is a selfie-centric smartphone, which was launched in India last year in June. In terms of specifications, the Redmi Y2 sports a 5.99-inch HD+ display and is powered by a 14nm Snapdragon 625 SoC clocked at 2GHz. The smartphone is equipped with a 16MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture. The front camera makes use of what the company calls “Super Pixel” process, which combines four pixels into a single large one but this is essentially Pixel Binning. On the rear, the Redmi Y2 comes equipped with a 12MP + 5MP camera setup that supports capturing Bokeh images. Additionally, the smartphone runs on MIUI 9.5 based on Android Oreo 8.1 out-of-the-box and is backed by a 3080mAh battery.

As mentioned above, the price drop on the Redmi Y2 is Xiaomi’s third announcement this week. The company previously slashed prices of the Mi A2 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro smartphones as well. The Mi A2’s 4GB RAM + 64GB storage version is now up for sale at Rs 13,999, down from its previously listed prices of 15,999. The Redmi Note 5 Pro will now cost Rs 12,999 for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage version, down from its previously listed price of Rs 13,999. The device’s 6GB RAM + 64GB storage model is now priced at Rs 13,999, down from its previous price of Rs 15,999.
