The gaming giant Razer announced on August 1 that it will cease support for Nextbit Robin effective immediately. As per their statement: “Rebels, effective August 1, 2017, we will be shutting down support for Robin. Although you won't be able to reach us by phone or chat anymore, any outstanding RMA tickets will be handled via email. Remember, you can still refer to our self-help section here, or get help from other Robin users on Razer Insider. If you purchased your Robin through a third-party reseller, please contact them for any inquiries.”
When Nextbit joined Razer, the company assured its consumers support for the device. This comes as a devastating blow for consumers who bought the cloud based smartphone. Reverting to a consumer’s query on Razer’s forum regarding the continuation of product support and Android O update before August 2018, a staff member said “We will continue software support as promised to February 2018. There is no guarantee of Android O hitting Robin.”

This could be a result of the plans Razer had for creating a phone tailored for hardcore gamers. Robin was launched exclusively on Flipkart on May 30 2016 for Rs 19,999. The smartphone primarily used cloud storage as a method to store photos, videos and apps. It sports a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection, and is powered by a 2680mAh battery. The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 platform, along with 3GB of RAM. The hexa-core processor is clocked at 1.8GHz, and features the Adreno 418 GPU. The Robin gets a 13MP rear camera with Auto Focus, Face Detection, HDR, Touch Focus, Digital Zoom and Video Recording.It also sports a front facing 5MP camera and a fingerprint sensor.
