Quite a few of those who have purchased the recently launched macbook pro retinaWhere to buy 149 299 versions are reporting system freeze and other issues with their systems. While the issues seem to be largely affecting the Haswell powered Retina MacBooks, some users with the 2012 version are also chipping in with their anguish and frustration. There is now a 30 page long thread on Apple’s Support Communities.
Users are reporting system freeze issues, which may include the entire system not responding, or certain hardware like the keyboard and the mouse refusing to respond. Some users managed to get the system working again by forcing a restart, while some report that closing the lid for a bit more than a minute returned the system to a working state. Interestingly, some users have reported that rolling back to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion puts an end to these issues, which strongly suggests this is more of a software issue than a hardware one.
At the moment, not a lot of the standard solutions like resetting the SMC are helping or checking with the Apple Hardware test are working, which suggests that only an update for the OS itself will put an end to the troubles some users are facing.
