Microsoft is hosting its second hardware event for the year in Shanghai on May 23 where it is likely to showcase the Surface Pro 5. Microsoft announced its upcoming event earlier in the day where it plans to "show the world what's next."
It is not clear what Microsoft plans to announce, but its Corporate VP of Devices, Panos Panay did hint at the launch of next Surface-branded device. Panay tweeted about the event with the hashtag 'Surface' and his planned attendance hints at the launch of Surface Pro 5. The Surface Pro 5 is not expected to bring dramatic change to the lineup, but will likely mark the switch to Intel's latest Kaby Lake processors.

Paul Thurrott had recently suggested that the device will keep the Surface's proprietary power connector. While Microsoft has not updated its Surface range of hybrid devices for more than a year now. the company recently announced Surface Laptop, a $999 Windows 10 notebook as the latest addition to the Surface range.
Earlier in the day, Microsoft's Yusuf Mehdi told Bloomberg Tech that Windows 10 is used by 300 million+ users every day for nearly three and a half hours. He also added that his company is working on 'great new Surface devices.' While Microsoft is most likely to introduce the Surface Pro 5 in Shanghai, but it is not yet know if it will unveil a sucessor to the Surface Book 2.
