We recently came across a report that hinted at the possibility of Motorola reviving its iconic Moto Razr smartphone. Now, 91Mobiles has spotted a patent that the smartphone maker filed with the World Intellectual Property Organisation on December 17 2018 that shows a smartphone with a foldable design that reiterates the company’s alleged plans of reviving the handset. The images show a phone with a clamshell design but with some notable changes like the presence of a tall screen on the inside instead of the legacy Numpad-screen combination. Additionally, the designs illustrated in the patent filing suggest that this device could be foldable as well and the notion isn't too far fetched since the first foldable phone FlexPai is already available and Samsung too has announced the imminent release of their foldable handset.

The images showcase a phone with a notch on top of its display and a considerably thick chin. The chin quite closely resembles the one seen on the legacy Moto Razr handset and it could be a design element that the company could stick with for playing the nostalgia card. As per the images, the phone might feature a secondary display on the upper half of on outside that could display short notifications and the lower half could sport a fingerprint sensor. The previous report about the device suggested that it could be priced starting at $1,500 and that Lenovo is partnering with Verizon to sell it in the US as soon as February.

The first mention of a foldable Razr phone was in February when Lenovo CEO, Yang Yuanqing talked about bringing back the phone. “With the new technology, particularly foldable screens, I think you will see more and more innovation on our smartphone design. So hopefully what you just described [the Motorola Razr brand] will be developed or realized very soon,” Yuanqing had said about the device.
