Silicon Over Silicone

Images created by the game companies through detailed computer illustration.

The section starts with a topless image of the title character from BloodRayne, a leather-clad woman who fights with three-foot blades attached to her arms. The next image is a full-frontal foldout of a character named Luba Licious from Leisure Suit Larry, which is about a young man who travels a college campus courting impossibly buxom women.

Senior editor Scott Alexander said, “Part of the thrust of the piece is that gaming is not just for kids.”

Linux Is Illegal!
If Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer had his way, Linux would be wiped off the face of the earth. And he’s doing what he can in that direction! Ballmer recently made waves at a Singapore conference, telling the attendees that Linux-not a particular distro or product, but Linux itself-actually violated 228 different patents. He also warned-or, rather, threatened-that litigation might await companies that make Linux-based cell phones.

The dig may have been directed at Panasonic and NEC, both of which have plans for Linux 3G handsets.

Showcasing Crime
Talk about exhibitionism! A gang of vandals in the Czech capital, Prague, who called themselves the Flamingoes filmed themselves beating people up and smashing park benches and road signs, which is quirky enough. But what takes the cake is that they put the film up on the Internet. Local TV station

CT reported that the film was out there for all to see, and police promptly arrested the gang. The gang’s site has since disappeared from the Web.

Hackers Did It!
Teresa Kerry, wife of failed democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer that she thinks that the only reason her husband lost out to George Bush was because of hackers(!). Mrs Kerry is still skeptical about Bush’s victory some four months after her husband lost. She questions the legitimacy of the optical scanners used in some states to record votes.

She said most of the machines that were used were owned by two brothers who were hard-right republicans, adding that it was “very easy to hack into the mother machines.” She also urged Democrats to push for accountability and transparency.

Now that has the ring of a really bad loser. We also wonder where from Mrs Kerry got her knowledge of how easy it is to hack into voting machines…

Peaks’ Peak Up On eBay
Ho-hum. Another ‘totally weird’ eBay auction: former stripper Tawny Peaks has jumped on the ridiculous eBay auction bandwagon by offering one of her silicone breast implants up for sale.

Peaks’ 69-HH breasts made the news in 1998 when she was accused of assaulting a man at a bachelor party with her, well, mammaries themselves. The victim claimed to have suffered whiplash injury after being hit in the face by them.

Despite the claimant’s assertion that they were “like two cement blocks,” the suit was later rejected after former New York Mayor Ed Koch ruled the assets soft, and therefore non-lethal.
