  • The phone will reportedly be powered by the Snapdragon 670 and sport a single rear camera.

There is an ongoing rumour that Google is working on a budget Pixel 3 device. Supposedly named the Google Pixel 3 Lite, the phone is due to be available in spring, later this year. Leaked renders and even live hands-on photos of the phones have confirmed the existence of such a venture by Google. Now, a video has surfaced showing the pre-production Pixel 3 Lite, giving us a good look at the design and specs of the upcoming smartphone.

The video is published by an Ukranian tech portal called Andro News, and shows the affordable Pixel will have a 3.5mm headphone jack, something that Google had removed back when they launched the Pixel 2 in 2017. Currently, Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 phones have to be connected to a Google-certified Type-C to 3.5mm dongle, as not all dongles work with the phones. Having a 3.5mm headphone certainly makes listening to music easier.

In the video, it’s evident that the Pixel 3 Lite is made from plastic. That’s a departure from the glass and metal design the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL comes with. Perhaps, that’s a way to drive costs down to make it affordable. The video claims the Pixel 3 Lite will sport a 5.56-inch FullHD+ display with a resolution of 1080×2160 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. There won’t be a notch on the display.

Furthermore, the Pixel 3 Lite will be powered by the Snapdragon 670 SoC, as opposed to earlier rumours that claimed the phone would be powered by the Snapdragon 710 SoC. There will be 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, according to the leaked video.

More than the hardware under the hood, it’s the camera that gave the Pixel phones it’s legendary status. Google will be keen to emulate that in the affordable Pixel as well, and as such, the video claims the phone will rely on a single 12.2 MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture. That camera specs is similar to what the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL come with. On the front, there could be a 8MP camera, unlike the flagship Pixel phones which has an additional wide-angle camera on the front.

The phone will of course run on Android 9 Pie and there will be 2,915mAh battery keeping the lights on. It’s not clear whether Google will have an XL variant of the Pixel 3 Lite, but the video claims the phones will be announced sometime after Google I/O 2019.
