Good news: there’s another Batman game in the works (na, na, na, na, na, yay!!!). The scary news is that it isn’t being made by masterminds at Rocksteady, the team that made Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. Arkham Origins will be published by Warner Brothers and will be developed by Warner Bros. Games Montreal.
Batman: Arkham Origins will still use the customized Unreal Engine, apart from a lot of assets that were created by Rocksteady for the franchise. The storyline this time around is a prequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum. You will don the role of a younger Bruce Wayne a.k.a Batman. In this adventure the caped crusader will encounter many of the famous franchise villains for the first time. Deathstroke will be one of the many villains that you will encounter in the game. Eight of the best assassins from the Batman universe decide to take on the caped crusader one Christmas Eve and this is the beginning of the story that defines Batman’s relationship with these legendary villains.
The game is set to hit all current generation consoles and the PC on October 25 2013. There is no information on whether the game will make an appearance on the PS4 or the Xbox 720.
But wait, there's more! Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate is also in the works and will make an appearance on the PS Vita and the Nintendo 3DS. The game will launch on the same day as the console version. The game is a completely new experience and not a handheld port of the console game. The story of the game will be set after the events of Arkham Origins. Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate is a 2.5-D Metroid-style exploration action game and will be developed by Armature Studio.
Warner Bros. Games Montreal has a high reputation to live up to since Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are the highest critically acclaimed Batman games to date.
