  • We list the best Android tablets that you can buy in India under Rs.15,000. These Android tablets offer the best value for money to anyone looking to buy an entry to mid-level tablet.

Laptops and desktops are being replaced by tablets and reports are indicating that about half of all the personal computers shipped in 2014 will be tablets. With almost all mobile devices running on quad-core processors, one can easily get their hands on a powerful tablet even at a tight budget.

With the new year just around the corner, we thought we would offer you a list of the best Android tablets available in India under Rs.15,000. The focus here has been build quality, hardware performance as well as screen size. Check them out:

1. iBall Slide Q9703

The iBall Slide Q9703 comes with a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, with 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage expandable via microSD card support to 32 GB, an octa-core GPU and the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as its OS. The display is a 9.7-inch QXGA HD IPS panel with 2048x1536 pixels display resolution and in the connectivity department there is Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G dongle support. At the back there is a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera for video calling. The iBall Slide Q9703 comes with a huge 8000mAh battery which is quite a lot for a budget tablet.

Perhaps this is the only tablet we came across in the price segment that offers a display resolution of 2048x1536 pixels which is similar to the ones we have seen on Apple’s iPad with Retina display.

Here’s an overview of the tablet.

2. Swipe MTV Slate

The Swipe MTV Slate tablet has a 7.85-inch HD IPS display with 1024x768 pixels display resolution and is powered by a 1.2GHz Cortex A7 quad-core processor. Running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, the tablet has a 5MP rear camera and VGA front camera, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of built-in storage which is expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card slot.

The Swipe MTV Slate is powered by a 3,600mAh battery and other features include FM Radio with recording, a SIM slot for voice calling as well as 3G data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. In terms of design and looks, the MTV Slate does seem quite similar to the iPad including the white bezel surrounding the display and the back panel.

3. Google Nexus 7 (2012)

One of the best performing tablets available under Rs.15,000, Google’s flagship tablet device, the Nexus 7 (first gen) is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM. The best thing about the tablet is that it runs on Android 4.2 out of the box, but it can be upgraded to the latest 4.4 KitKat version of Android. With that it is expected to receive future updates well before other manufacturers. In terms of build quality, the Nexus 7 feels nice in the hand and doesn’t feel cheap. The 32GB version is currently available for about Rs. 12,000 on a number of online stores.
