Deliverain is an augmented reality platform that provides tech to support maintenance, repair and overhaul tasks for industrial workers. This is a highly technical technology, that allows companies to replace difficult to use manuals with a mobile app that delivers the relevant content on demand. The technology platform that Deliverain has developed for this purpose is known as Scaffold.
We spoke to Deliverain to understand more about Scaffold a the the technology stack used. “The technology stack used to build the Scaffold Platform is the following: Native Applications developed in android Android, iOS, Content Management System using Microsoft ASP.Net Core, Angular, Threejs along with SQL and NoSQL databases and Augmented Reality with Unity and WebXR. Scaffold has been completely developed in-house using Deliverain’s Product Development team.” To put it crudely, Scaffold is like a flexible blogging platform for companies, that can add content for their technical workers to use. This is known as a 3D CMS (content management system), ”Scaffold's 3D Content Management System provides users with the ability to create, manage and integrate high-fidelity 3D & AR Content, Experience optimization and Delivery. Content Authors can also add customizable attributes, reference images and comments to each component under the 3D Model along with hotspots to highlight product areas for step-by-step instructions. All this in addition to the normal CMS to manage 2D content.”
We asked about the process of adding 3D content to scaffold, “Scaffold content can be authored via an easy-to-use content management system interface for 2D and advanced interface for 3D/AR. The content authored will be exposed to the external application (mainly the mobile app or between internal services of Scaffold) via API which are protected by encryption/hashing techniques to prevent unauthorized access. The content authoring system is designed to hold various roles and workflows to make sure that the users using the content management system have access to only those sections or actions that are applicable for them.”
The best thing is that the software does not require fancy phones with high end hardware to work, and the three modes allow the software to function just as well on entry level phones without AR capabilities, “in its current form, Scaffold works on three modes i.e., AR, 3D and 2D (various media formats). Scaffold determines the ability of a smartphone to render relevant experiences. If the algorithm detects that the phone cannot render AR experience it falls back to 3D and if it determines that 3D also cannot be played because of any limitations then the platform switches to 2D Guides. In the subsequent releases, the AR experiences will support cloud rendering. This capability will work only in an online mode and can serve very high-quality experience even on a basic smartphone.” Drivetrain is taking a crack at an incredibly tough problem, “The Service function in Manufacturing Industries is underserved by Technology.
Especially in the Manufacturing Industry, Organizations try to scale on physical infrastructure instead of scaling on technology. For Example - The country's leading car manufacturer opened 250 new technical training institutes to upskill and cross-skill their workforce instead of scaling on technology. Also, there is high attrition in the Service sector of Manufacturing Industry and the cost of training new recruits is very high.
