Check out our recommendations for your weekend binge.

The weekend is just around the corner and its time to give you guys our recommendations for what you need to be watching. We’ve taken a look at the three major OTT streaming platforms, namely, Netflix, Hotstar and Amazon Prime. So, strap in and let’s check out what we have to offer.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance

A seminal film in the 80’s, The Dark Crystal was a technological marvel as it combined live action through the art of puppetry to create a vivid and fully-realized world. The latest addition to the series, Age of Resistance takes the nostalgia of the 80’s film and adds modern sensibilities to an already classic story. Watch it for the excellent characters and puppet work.

The Spy

Even though Sacha Baron Cohen (Ali G, The Dictator) is one of the most provocative comedians out there, his role as Mossad spy, Eli Cohen is one of his most important roles yet. This Netflix drama series just premiered today, September 6 and is an intriguing watch. You’ll never see Sacha Baron Cohen the same way again.

Dave Chapelle- Sticks and Stones

Even though this special has a critic rating of 11% on Rotten Tomatoes, the 99% audience score is what you should be paying attention to. A raunchy and out there show, Sticks and Stones is what fearless comedy should be like.

Amazon Prime:

Too Old To Die Young

Directed by Nicholas Winding Refn, Too Old To Die Young is a neon soaked tale of crime and very little redemption. Stylish, dangerous and hypnotically vibrant, Too Old To Die Young is the story of a police officer in Los Angeles who finds himself drifting deeper into a seedy underworld that he may not be able to get out from.

John Cho (Star Trek, Harold and Kumar go to White Castle) stars in this unique and terrifying film. Shot from the perspective of a computer screen, the film follows Cho as he searches for his missing daughter as the action unfolds on screen. A harrowing and thrilling film, Searching is a must-watch for anyone who has kids.

A remake of Dario Argento’s masterpiece, Suspiria takes the original and carves it’s own slice out of it. A bleak and disturbing film about a woman who encounters a coven of witches in a dance school in Berlin. The film is creepy, yet beautiful in its execution. A must watch for horror fans who prefer their films to be a little smarter than the average schlock.

If you’re a fan of Dwyane Johnson, also known as The Rock, then this is the TV-show for you. Johnson stars as Spencer Strasmore, a former NFL player who is making his way through the murky and tempting world of sports entertainment. The show also features a ton of cameos from film stars and former/current NFL stars.

The Shape of Water

One of Guillermo Del Toro’s finest films, The Shape Of Water is a love story wrapped up in a creature feature. Starring Sally Hawkins as a mute cleaner who works in a government lab, the film revolves around her connection with a creature that is brought in as an experiment and how she helps him escape. Dark, tender and beautiful, The Shape of Water is an excellent weekend watch.

The Wire

If you have not watched The Wire as yet, then we suggest you get on it, right now. The Wire is simply the greatest TV show ever put to screen. A love letter to the city of Baltimore, the show looks at the complicated threads that govern the lives of drug dealers and the people chasing them. Take our word for it, The Wire is a TV show that should not and cannot be missed.
