PUBG Mobile now rivals Fortnite with over 200 million users
HIGHLIGHTS

PUBG Mobile developers have reportedly said that their game now has over 200 million players, same as Fortnite.

Battle Royale games like PUBG and Fortnite took this year by storm and garnered massive popularity amongst mobile gamers. While the two titles are fairly different in terms of gameplay, the basic premise remains the same. One needs to be the last person standing as the map shrinks and take out as many opponents as they can in the process. While Fortnite had plenty of time over PUBG and is said to have garnered over 200 million players, PUBG was lagging behind. However, its mobile version is doing rather well and now has over 200 million users, The Verge reports

As per the report, the 200 million worldwide players stat for PUBG Mobile excludes figures from China, probably because the game has been reportedly banned there. Additionally, it does not include the number of gamers that bought the title for PC and consoles, which is estimated to be around another 50 million. This could mean that PUBG probably has more players than Fortnite, but there’s no assurance since the two companies have not revealed the latest numbers.

PUBG was a fairly well-known game on PC from the start but was in beta for quite some time and was riddled with bugs. On the other hand, Epic Games banked on Fortnite for PC as it was pretty stable and introduced new characters, missions and events from time to time. However, back in March this year, PUBG Mobile was released and gamers worldwide took a liking to it as the number of daily active users rose to 20 million on the platform by September and now, this number is said to be around 30 million. While Fortnite won the game of the year award at the 36th Golden Joystick Award, PUBG Mobile also bagged Mobile Game of the Year award.

Both the games keep receiving constant updates and currently, the Season 7 of Fortnite is underway, while PUBG Mobile has entered its fourth season and is soon going to be updated with the Vikendi snow map. PUBG Mobile was also recently updated to version 0.10.0 on the Google Play Store and the new map will be made available for download on December 20, with matchmaking available 24 hours later.
