Microsoft has made its Edge browser available as a preview for Android and iOS through its Windows Insider program. The Microsoft Edge browser was first made available through Windows 10. The company has also renamed the Arrow launcher for Android and is now calling it the Microsoft Launcher, which has also been made available for a preview.
The Microsoft Insider program is free for all and users can go sign up for it here. With Edge for iOS and Android, Insiders will be able to use various features of the Edge browser for Windows 10, including - Reading Lists, New Tab, Favourites, Reading View and more on the iOS and Android mobile version of the browser.
Users will also be able to seamlessly transition from the mobile version of Edge to one on a Windows 10 PC where they can continue working on the browser without ending the ongoing mobile session.
“No matter the device, your browsing goes with you...what makes Microsoft Edge really stand out is the ability to continue on your PC, which enables you to immediately open the page you’re looking at right on your PC—or save it to work on later,” Microsoft writes in a blog post.
As per the Redmond based software giant, the Edge preview for Android and iOS will only be available in US English initially. “We’ll ramp to other countries/languages as we expand the preview,” says the company. Microsoft’s blog post also notes that certain features such as, roaming passwords and support for iPads/Android tablets, will not be available with the preview launch but will be added in the future.
iOS users can test the Edge preview app through Apple TestFlight, while interested Android users can sign up to test the preview app which will be available soon. Users can head here to sign up to test the Microsoft Edge for iOS and Android preview apps.
Microsoft has also renamed its Arrow Launcher which was first launched in 2015. It is now called the Microsoft Launcher and will also be available as a preview for Android through the Windows Insider program.
Microsoft says that the new Launcher has the most beautiful and fluent design. The company is also confident that it is the most customisable and powerful launcher out there. “With Microsoft Launcher, your recent photos, documents and more can all Continue on PC as well,” writes the company.
Users will be able to create icons for their favourite contacts for quick and easy access from the homescreen of their phones. The Microsoft Launcher will also offer a tailored feed which will help users access important events, top news, recent activities, favorite people and most frequently used apps.
Further, the Microsoft Launcher will let users personalise their phones with coloured backgrounds of their choice. It comes with gesture support as well.
