Viber messaging and voice calling app has crossed 40 million registered users milestone in India, making it the company's biggest market globally.
Viber has features including the ability to send text messages, photos, videos and doodles, as well as make voice calls to mobile phones and land lines across the globe. It offers some unique features like public chats which has verticals like fashion, travel, sports, entertainment etc, which users can share and publicly join mobile conversations and communities. Users also have access to stickers which can be utilised to visually convey emotions during text chats. Viber has between 7000-8000 stickers available for users.
The company started its India operations in December 2013 and competes with VOIP apps like Skype and popular messaging apps like WhatsApp, Hike, Line and Nimbuzz. Globally Viber has over 516 million unique users across 193 countries. The app is available across all mobile platforms including iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, Windows, Mac, Linux and Symbian devices as well as for desktop users. Japan’s Rakuten acquired Viber for $ 900 million in February 2014.

India has seen a massive 113% growth in messaging apps in the last two years. WhatsApp dominates the Indian market with over 70 million active users and is the apps biggest market globally. China's WeChat is the fastest growing app with over 2,364 per cent growth since January 2014. Viber has approximately an 18 pc market share in the country, according to reports.
