IRCTC has launched a new mobile application on the BlackBerry platform to enable users to book train tickets. The app can be downloaded from BlackBerry app store under the Navigation & Travel section.

According to the listing on the app store, the IRCTC app for BB10 allows users to book railway tickets, check train schedules, reservation status, availability of tickets, cancellation, train routes, booking history and much more. An IRCTC official stated at the launch that the BB10 app is very easy to use and allows users to plan a journey with just a tap of a finger.

"The official IRCTC App can now be downloaded from the BlackBerry Store on BlackBerry-10 smartphones and book train tickets using the App," said a senior IRCTC official.

Annie Mathew, Director, Business Development and Alliance, BlackBerry India, adds, "We are excited to bring the IRCTC application to BlackBerry World. With the increasing smartphone perpetration and the increasing dependence on mobile applications, it is a great opportunity for us to help our customers experience this app for an easy and streamlined train booking service."

The railway PSU has spent Rs 100 crore on strengthening the IRCTC ticketing site. The number of tickers booked are considerable with an average of 7,000 tickets booked on the website per minute and about 5 lakh tickets daily. Out of the 31 crore reserve tickets being booked in a year, 55 percent tickets are sold through windows, 37 percent tickets are booked online while eight percent are being booked by ticketing agents.

IRCTC had launched its app for Windows Phone and Windows Phone 8 last year. The apps can be downloaded from the Windows Phone Store and Windows 8 Store respectively.
