Google Hangouts now lets you make 1 min free international calls

Google has announced that Hangouts app users in 25 countries, including India, will now get the first minute free while making international calls until the end of the current year.

Google’s Hangouts app for desktops and mobile has allowed video chats and calls to phone numbers using an internet connection for a while now. The app also allows users to make free calls to the U.S. and Canada. The one free minute will allow users to say a quick hello or deliver an important message at no cost and it doesn't even require an internet connection.

Google announced in a blog post that if users make calls using Google's Hangouts mobile app, “the first minute of calls to phone numbers in twenty-five different countries is now free.”

However, there is a catch, users will need to have some calling credit in their Google account and add their credit card details to get the first minute free. Users will be charged for the duration of their calls after the first minute.

“Don’t worry, if you need a bit more than a minute, we’ve got you covered there too,” writes Google. “As always, phone calls with Hangouts are free for most numbers in the US and Canada, and our international rates are super low. You can make phone calls from every device where you use Hangouts, and with Hangouts Dialer on Android.”

Google recently updated its Hangouts Tab in Gmail. The revamped app will allows users to pin a contact to the top of the list, send messages to offline contacts, and allows users to see which contacts are online first before the offline contacts.
