Apple has announced a new update for developers which allows them to put their new apps up for pre-order on the App Store. Customers can now view and pre-order the app before its made available for download. They will be notified once the app is published and it will automatically be download to their devices within 24 hours.
Developers can make their apps available for preorder on the homepage of the iTunes Connect. A new pre-order option can now be seen under the Pricing and Availability tab on the left side of their app’s page. Also, the app’s release date for the app needs to be between 2 to 90 days in the future.
Users who pre-order a paid app will be charged once it is available for download. If the app’s price changes during pre-order, the customer will be charged the price that is lower: the price they accepted during pre-order on the day of release. The pre-order option will only be available for new apps which have never been published on the App Store. Till now, the new feature was available only for select developers. This official rollout makes it available for all developers.
Additionally, Apple has also launched a pre-ordering report for developers. The pre-orders in Sales and Trends report allows developers to track the performance of their pre-orders along with metrics like the number of ordered, cancelled, and net pre-orders.
