Convertible laptops were once the preserve of creative artists who were willing to spend, but fortunately, that is no longer the case. Today, you can get a convertible laptop with a proper stylus-supported touchscreen panel for under half a lakh rupees. It will make sense to buy one even if you are a student who wants to scribble down notes quickly, and not an artist. What’s more, entry-level convertible laptops come with features seen on conventional laptops, such as full-size ports. Here are some of the models you can consider if you’re in the market for an affordable convertible laptop.
The Pavilion x360 currently is HP’s most affordable Windows-powered convertible laptop. It sits below the costlier Envy x360 and the top-of-the-line Spectre x360 but brings with it all the right ingredients for touchscreen computing. Its 10th Gen Intel Core i3 CPU, combined with 4GB of RAM, is good for basic computing tasks such as email exchange and offline video playback. Because it’s an entry-level model, it comes with space for full-size ports, such as USB-A and HDMI. It even has a full-size SD card reader slot.
Lenovo’s newest Yoga employs the latest Intel 10th Gen Core i5 CPU along with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of solid-state storage to deliver top-notch performance for everyday activities. Being a convertible, the Lenovo Yoga C640 lends itself to scribbling and note-taking activities easily. The laptop comes bundled with an active stylus that is compatible with pre-installed Windows apps such as OneNote and Paint 3D. The Yoga C640 also comes with security features such as a physical shutter for the webcam and a fingerprint scanner.
The Envy x360 is HP’s mid-range AMD Ryzen-powered convertible laptop. It sits under the top-of-the-line Spectre x360 but offers a similar level of performance, style, and battery life. Its rear edge uses a design that’s borrowed from Damascus steel, which positively boosts the device’s style quotient by a great margin. What’s more, the Envy x360 is quite lightweight. Its 13.3-inch frame weighs in at 1.3kg, which is ideal for the backpack of frequent travellers and busy professionals. Meanwhile, its 512GB solid-state drive ensures fast boot times.
Asus launched the AMD Ryzen-powered ZenBook Flip 14 in late 2019 along with its non-convertible equivalent, the ZenBook 14 UM431. Its 8GB RAM and 512GB solid-state drive ensure quick boot times and application launch times. On the sides, it has full-size ports for convenience, such as USB-A and HDMI.
These ports ensure you don’t need to carry dongles with you every time you travel or present in public. On the inside, there’s a 14-inch touchscreen panel with support for a stylus along with a backlit keyboard. The keys on the keyboard have a good travel of 1.4mm.
