Samsung may have just confirmed Apple’s first foldable iPhone: Here’s what we know

Apple’s long-rumoured foldable iPhone has been in headlines for a long time now, and now, a fresh leak may have given us the biggest hint yet. Interestingly, this time the slip-up doesn’t come from any tipster but from Samsung. According to a report by Chosun Biz, Samsung Display President Lee Chong recently told reporters in Seoul that the company is preparing foldable OLED panels for a “North American client.” Although he didn’t drop any names, reports are quick to connect the dots that the North American client could be none other than Apple, the largest smartphone maker in the region.

While the details on the rumoured iPhone Fold are still under wraps, here’s what we know so far.

iPhone Fold launch timeline (Expected)

If the report holds up, Apple could finally introduce its first foldable iPhone in September 2026, with production of Samsung’s new 8.6th generation OLED panels expected to begin in the third quarter of next year.

iPhone Fold expected specifications (Expected)

Leaks suggest that the iPhone Fold may ship with a 7.8-inch inner OLED display alongside a 5.5-inch outer screen, both supporting Apple’s buttery-smooth ProMotion refresh rate. Unlike many current foldables, the device is expected to feature a crease-free hinge design, maintaining a thickness of just 4.5–4.8mm when unfolded.

Durability also seems to be a big focus. Reports claim Apple could use titanium for both the hinge and chassis, much like what we saw in the iPhone 15 Pro lineup. On the camera front, expect a 48MP dual-camera setup, along with dedicated selfie cameras for both folded and unfolded modes. Further, Apple is reportedly testing a side-mounted Touch ID sensor.

iPhone Fold price (Expected)

Early leaks suggest the iPhone Fold could carry a jaw-dropping price tag of around $2,000 (roughly Rs 1,76,000). That would make it the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever sold.
