Origin OS confirmed to replace FuntouchOS in India and global market soon: Here’s what we know

Vivo and iQOO are all set to introduce their China-exclusive Origin OS in India as well as the global market soon. iQOO India CEO Nipun Marya has confirmed the arrival of Origin OS via a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the company will soon roll out OriginOS 6, its new software skin built on top of Android 16. This will replace Funtouch OS 15, which is currently used on Vivo and iQOO devices in India.

For the unversed, Vivo’s phones in China already run on OriginOS, while Indian units have so far been running on Funtouch OS. With this change, Indian users will get the same software experience their Chinese counterparts have had for years. Here’s everything that we know about OriginOS in India

Origin OS in India: Changes and features

OriginOS is said to be cleaner and run smoother than Funtouch OS, with fluid animations, widget-focused layouts, and a more refined overall feel. On the contrary, Funtouch OS has often been criticised for being bloated on otherwise excellent hardware.

Though the company hasn’t revealed which handsets will be the first to ship with OriginOS 6, the upcoming iQOO 15 series is widely expected to be among the earliest devices to come with the new skin. Vivo’s next flagship, the X300 series, could also debut with OriginOS in India.

Additionally, it is also unclear whether existing Vivo and iQOO phones in India will be updated to OriginOS 6, or if the new software will stay exclusive to fresh launches. It will also be challenging to bring Google integration, since the Chinese version of OriginOS doesn’t ship with Google Play services.
