The latest chipset supports WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2

Samsung and MediaTek have announced a partnership to bring WiFi 6E enabled 8K TV later this year. This is not the first time both companies are collaborating as they have worked previously to launch the world’s first WiFi 6 enabled 8K TV as well. The Samsung 8K QLED Y21 smart TV is powered by the MediaTek MT7921AU chipset and offers improved connectivity.

“Consumers depend on fast, reliable connectivity, whether they are using their TV for streaming, gaming or following along with workouts. Our collaboration with Samsung has been instrumental in bringing consumers the latest smart TV technology to support these uses and beyond. With our advanced connectivity technologies – including WiFi-6 support – integrated into Samsung’s 8K TVs, we’re driving the premium smart TV segment forward globally,” said Jerry Yu, MediaTek Corporate Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Intelligent Devices Business Group.

MediaTek’s latest chipset brings in support for WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 offering upto 1.2Gbps data throughput that allows uninterrupted streaming and gaming sessions. Furthermore, the WiFi 6E offers significant gains over the previous generation such as faster multi-gigabit data throughput, ultra-low latencies and the latest security features.

How’s WiFi 6E different from WiFi 6?

The WiFi 6E is the next generation of WiFi standard, succeeding the WiFi 6. Unlike WiFi 6 which operates on 2.4GHz and 5GHz radio bands, the WiFi 6E (E stands for Extended) also operates on the 6GHz band. Overall, this helps in minimizing network congestion which could be useful in areas with different networks.

The WiFi 6E has more wireless bands for operating on the 6GHz frequency that ranges from 5.925GHz to 7.125GHz. This results in faster speeds and seamless connectivity features for AR/VR, 8K streaming and more.
