Google Pixel 6 Pro to feature periscope telephoto camera

Google is bringing its A-game later this year with the Pixel 6 lineup that could include the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, after sticking to a single variant last year. Google did not release a large-screen flagship smartphone in all of 2020 and even the Pixel 5 did not make it to many countries such as India. However, it seems like Google wants to get back into the game this year and we have some exclusive information about the Pixel 6 Pro courtesy of popular tipster OnLeaks. This latest leak by OnLeaks is a lot more detailed and comprehensive than the previous ones as we get to know much more about the on-paper specifications of the Pixel 6 Pro.

Google Pixel 6 was also leaked last week by Front Page Tech that revealed the renders of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro with a striking new design. The recent rumours about the next generation of Pixel phones suggests that we may get a Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro this year. It seems Google will be removing the XL moniker from its phone nomenclature and will be using ‘Pro’ for the large-screen version.

Having said that, the Pro version won’t just have a bigger screen as it is also expected to be superior to the standard variant and houses more cameras at the back. Previous leaks revealed that the standard Pixel 6 will have dual cameras while the Pixel 6 Pro could have a triple camera array at the back. This will be the first time we will see Google adopt three cameras for its upcoming Pixel 6 Pro as it has only offered single camera and dual camera setup so far. Here’s everything you need to know about the Pixel 6 Pro.

Google Pixel 6 Pro leaked renders and specifications

We have gotten our hands on early renders of the Google Pixel 6 Pro thanks to a partnership with popular tipster OnLeaks. The Pixel 6 Pro features a 6.67-inch curved display that has a single punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera up front. The display is expected to use an AMOLED panel which may or may not support a high refresh rate. The screen will have minimal bezels on all sides and also has an in-screen fingerprint sensor. However, do note that the OnLeaks renders of the Pixel 6 Pro has a slightly noticeable chin than what's shown in the previous leak.

Google has completely redesigned the back of the Pixel 6 Pro but did not entirely do away with its iconic dual-tone design. The phone measures roughly 163.9 x 75.8 x 8.9 millimetres and has an 11.5 millimetres thickness if you take the camera bump into account. There is a horizontal camera island at the top which is a bit protruded and it houses three cameras.

The triple camera setup on the Pixel 6 Pro includes a primary wide-angle camera, a periscope telephoto camera and an unknown camera situated next to the LED flash. There are a couple of sensors housed in the camera module as well as a microphone unit.

The Pixel 6 Pro also has dual stereo speakers with a top and bottom speaker unit and it also supports wireless charging. From the renders, we can also see that the SIM card slot may be repositioned to the left edge of the phone.

Overall, it looks like Google is doubling down on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro for 2021 as the phones are set to receive upgrades in the design, display and camera department. There are also rumours that the Pixel 6 lineup could be the first Google phones to be powered by its homegrown Google Silicon. Earlier reports have revealed that the company has been investing deeply into hardware and could be on the verge of using its own chipsets in the upcoming Google Pixel phones and Chromebooks.

We currently have no word on which chipset will be powering the Pixel 6 lineup but we expect to know more about the phone in the second half of 2021.
