Intex has finally launched its own budget quad-core budget smartphone and is looking to take on the likes of Micromax A116 Cavnvas HD, Xolo Q800, WickedLeak Wammy Titan II, Karbonn Smart Titanium S1 and S5, and other recently launched devices in the segment. Called the 'Intex Aqua Wonder Quadcore' (not 'Intex Aqua Wonder 2' as previously expected), it is a sub-Rs. 10k device priced at Rs. 9,990.

The Intex Aqua Wonder Quadcore boasts of dual-SIM capabilities and has a 4.5-inch qHD display. It has the quad-core MediaTek MT6589 SoC with 512MB of RAM. It has a meagre 1.93GB of built-in storage expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card. It also houses an 8MP rear facing camera and a 2MP front facing camera for video calling. An 1800mAh battery powers the entire package and it runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Commenting on the launch of its quad-core phone, Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, GM - Mobile Business, Intex Technologies (I) Ltd. said, “At Intex, we endeavor to bring innovative mobile solutions to mobile users of today. Reaffirming our commitment to quality and pioneering technologies, the newly launched Aqua Wonder quad core smartphone is a step towards empowering consumers in semi-urban towns and cities with cutting edge technology at an affordable price.”

On paper, the specifications of the Intex Aqua Wonder Quadcore are the same as the Xolo Q800 with the difference being that the Q800 has more built-in storage. The Xolo Q800 is also priced higher at Rs. 12,499.

The quad-core race has started picking up in India now that we have three devices on sale, the Canvas HD, Q800 and the Aqua Quadcore, that boast of the MediaTek MT6589 SoC. We have also seen the announcement of the Jiayu G4 that also boasts of the MediaTek MT6589 SoC. The G4 Basic is priced under the Rs. 10,000 mark and is a direct competitor to the Intex Aqua Quadcore.
