EA DICE's Frostbite Engine to soon get a mobile version: Frostbit...

EA DICE's Frostbite Engine isn't just for PC and consoles anymore. An update on their official website has disclosed a project called Frostbite Go, which would capture the essence of the Frostbite experience to all major mobile platforms.

The Frostbite Go project will target all major mobile platforms, specifically iOS and Android, which EA labels as "a mobile division empowering EA game developers with Frostbite's proven excellent workflows and features to bring true Frostbite experiences to all major mobile platforms."

The company started hiring developers last year and a mobile team called Frostbite Go was mentioned by the EA DICE project manager in April.

The Frostbite engine debuted in 2008 with Battlefield: Bad Company, and since been through various iterations - v1.5 for Battlefield 1943, v2 for Battlefield 3. So far, Other upcoming games will use the latest Frostbite 3 engine, such as Battlefield 4 and Dragon Age III: Inquisitor.

The official website reveals that the Frostbite team, located in Stockholm, has been divided into six sub-groups, one of them dedicated to mobile engine.

Good news for Nintendo fans - though earlier EA announced that no Frostbite 3 games were planned for Wii U, there is now a high possibility that Frostbite engine games could be launched on Nintendo's home console as well.

The website doesn't reveal which version of the Frostbite engine will be used for the mobile platform, but we can be assured that it will deploy the best and the latest for the Frostbite Go. Battlefield 4 will be the first Frostbite 3 game to arrive this calendar year, so there is a high probability that Frostbite Go-created products should be launched in the market at the same time.
