your motherboard does not support HDMI, you need to get a GFX card (low end cards like the one mentioned above). I would recommend this over VGA because the HDMI cable carries audio also.

Please note that HDMI is just the data path, the quality of the picture reproduced on your TV depends on the video you are playing. A 720p/1080p video will look awesome , but handy cam videos (say VGA resolution) may look crappy on your huge TV screen .

Too be honest before I knew about HDMI I thought I could directly connect my desktop to the LED TV using the VGA ports. And assuming I'm playing the 1080p and 720p videos.

I was not sure how the HDMI port/ Connecting both the devices using the HDMI cable would make the video better as compared to watching it connected using VGA cable.

hmm well I was planning to upgrade my rig sometime mid of this year. So I'm thinking is it a good idea to buy this card? If I do buy the card then I have to postpone upgrading my rig.

Also with regards to the kind of video. Just wanted to check if I'm trying to play a 1080 or 720p file from my desktop to the TV how much difference would it be if I have only VGA connected Vs if I have HDMI connected? Is the difference significant?

VGA don't have bandwidth for HD videos even it is not suitable for LCD monitor you can see every thing is washed out in monitor if you use VGA.
It will limit you to some odd resolution.

you have to use HDMI you will get better audio and video quality with it.

ok here are a few questions.. do you only want to watch Videos from your PC on your TV? or do you want to play games also??? .. cause your requirement is quite confusing..

If you want to Connect your PC to TV then you have to buy the GFX card and use it via HDMI cable. This way you will do justice to your TV. I wont debate on VGA Quality.

I also noted that there are couple of features available in the above TV.
    1. DLNA
    2. Ethernet Port
    3. Your TV can take a WiFi adapter..

with these above features you can actually stream videos from your PC directly to your TV over your home network. do some research on this. ask me if you get confused.

Lastly.. you can check with Network Media Players .. you can play any damn thing on that (except games )

WD TV Live - not sure about the price .. check ebay/local market..

Well sorry for being noob. Actually before I had the LCD Monitor which I purchased an year ago for my Dekstop PC I thought we could get the video display using only VGA connection. So without connecting through VGA port between my LCD Monitor and the desktop cabinet can I still use some other wire or port and get a better display. I thought VGA is must to connect between either laptop or desktop to other devices like monitor etc. Can you explain further? If that is the case then I will get rid of this VGA for good.

    VGA lowest quality
    DVI better quality than VGA
HDMI better SOUND and PICTURE quality(HDMI can carry both sound and video)

Yes, you can connect it through DVI port in LCD by the way can you mention exact model which monitor you are using now?

    Yes, that's the TV.
Currently watching movies from PC to TV ,no games atleast not right now.

Ok will think about buying the External card.

Also I know that I can connect wireless but I may need a dongle for that.

I think the current Model is playing most of the formats so will have to postpone buying the media player for sometime.

    Thanks for your time!

I also have a laptop but which is being used by other family member hence not at my home. I can get that once in a while that does have a HDMI port.

Bro thanks for that AC Ryan link. That looks very useful.

I think there are some confusions regarding VGA, DVI and HDMI.

ajayritik, VGA cable carries analogue signal. So when the video signal leaves the computer and goes to the VGA cable, VGA cable chipset converts the digital video signal to anlogue signal, resulting loss of some quality during the conversion. Again when the analogue signal leaves the cable and goes to the TV HDMI input, it again gets converted from analogue to Digital signal, resluting another level of quality loss. So VGA actually provides very lossy quality, the output is always of lower quality than the source.

On the other hand, both DVI and HDMI can carry digital signal without any conversion. So you'll get exact same quality of the Source video in your display (Here it is your LCD TV).
