Xiaomi may launch Mi Box in India by Diwali

Xiaomi may be launching the Mi Box in India around Diwali. According to sources close to Xiaomi, Xiaomi is trying to integrate set-top-boxes running in India to the Mi Box. The Xiaomi Mi Box, which was announced back in May at Google I/O this year, is an Android TV enabled set top box. The Mi Box is powered by a 2GHz quad-core processor and features a 750 MHz Mali 450 GPU. This little streaming box can stream 4K content and even support HDR (HDR 10). Further, this was the first Android TV enabled streaming box to run on Android 6.0 out of the box.

The source said Xiaomi has been trying to bring the Mi box to India, but it is taking time as Xiaomi engineers are trying to figure out a way to integrate the set-top-box functionality into it. So, the feed from your cable TV providers won’t be a pass-through like the Xbox One, but will be layered under Xiaomi’s own UI. This could mean that once connected, users won’t have to switch between the cable box and Mi Box for content, but rather use the Mi Box directly.

In terms of connectivity, the Mi Box supports dual bands — 2.4GHz and 5GHz and all standards including 802.11a/b/g/n/ac. The device also supports Bluetooth 3.0 and 4.0 standards. All the latest video formats are also supported, including H.264 and H.265. DTS 2.0+ Digital out plus Dolby digital out is also supported along with 7.1 pass through.
