Facebook Messenger for iOS adds support for Instagram photos

Facebook has updated its Messenger app for iOS v2.6 and now lets users send photos from Instagram albums. The new paper clip icon in the version 2.6 makes it easy to send photos and emoji that users can tap from any message.

Facebook has now removed restrictions on photo attachments and has allowed users to attach and share photos from other albums including the Instagram album. The photo selection screen has been improved and now you can tap the title bar in Facebook’s photo selection screen to choose your favorite album.

Another major improvement is that the plus button for adding photos, voice recordings and emoji has been replaced by a paper clip button in the app. The icon allows you to tap and attach images from messages. Apart from these the update also includes some bug fixes and performance improvements.

The new version 2.6 has also got some new stickers and smiley faces in the stickers store. Facebook Messenger had added support for stickers a while back but only a few sticker packs were initially available. Now users have a large selection to choose from the sticker store, like Snoopy’s Moods and Despicable Me 2.

Facebook had recently acquired Instagram for $1 billion and has slowly begun integrating Instagram into its own social network. The new features will allow Facebook Messenger to compete with Snapchat and WhatsApp which send approx 200 and 325 million visual messages every day. Facebook Messenger is available for free on Apple's iTunes App Store and is optimized for iOS 5.0 or higher.
